inSlather on the sunscreen and grab your water-wings, kids — we’re going to the hydrophilic area! Hydrophobes are advised to head on over to the:
While the name might suggest a pasture of boulders, this was actually a wall.
But if you really want to test your, well, limits, I suggest you check out the:
Would you have guessed that a “limit stadium” was a skate park?
All pictures taken at the Neihu Sports Park by my keen-eyed husband (with his cell phone…please excuse the blurriness).

inIt’s official: I’m beginning to internalize my surroundings. How do I know? Because, as of late, I’ve been thinking in mistranslations. Oh bambi.
The other day I found myself trying to explain how city parks and bike paths substantially improve, you know, the value of living. Can you guess what I was really trying to say?

Posted My Story, Taipei Living
inLast Monday Taiwan celebrated its big (not uncontroversial…ask China) 1-0-0, which got me to thinking about birthdays. Namely, my own (because I’m sometimes a tad narcissistic). You see, in September I too reached an impressive milestone.
I turned 30.
Okay, okay so it was no centennial. No one proclaimed the anniversary of my birth to be a national holiday. Nor did they enlist a small army to light the candles on my cake (although the fire marshal almost made an appearance at my party—but more on that later). And, noooooo, my fete did not draw quite the numbers as Taiwan’s:
Nor the fanfare:
But my day in the spotlight was not devoid of delights and surprises.

Anyone currently residing in Taipei knows that there is a design expo in town. City buses, metro stations, and, in some cases, entire buildings are plastered with advertisements for the event, and the odd multi-headed, multi-legged, poop-like mascot (see below) has been popping up everywhere. So on Monday I decided to head into the den of this very peculiar beast: I hopped on the metro and bee-bopped over to the Songshan Cultural & Creative Park to see what all the fuss was about.
And I was quite delighted that I had. Once there, I was expo-sed (sub-par pun intended) to design of all forms: industrial, interior, graphic, you name it. But my favorite designs were of the product variety. Some of my top picks are below, but if you’re in town, you really should check it out for yourself before the expo exp(o)ires on October 30.

inOver the weekend I was out and about quite a bit, and I could not help but make another humidity-related observation. Not to belabor the point, but I’ve noticed that I am not the only one suffering the ill effects of humidity over here. Fido has a serious case of the frizzies too.
Let me illustrate, photographically.
In a climate like, say, California, you might expect a canine to be coiffed like this:

inI don’t usually post on the weekends, but this simply couldn’t wait. You have got to check out the latest post on my sister-in-law’s blog. Just thinking about it makes me giggle.
